  Extraordinary Ministers

Purpose:  Extraordinary Ministers, sometimes referred to as Eucharistic Ministers, are properly designated as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. They are members of the laity who are trained to assist priests and deacons in distributing the most precious body and blood of our Lord when there are not enough Ordinary Ministers available.

Requirements:   Extraordinary Ministers must be

  • registered members of the parish
  • at least 18 years of age or a senior in high school
  • fully initiated in the Church
  • persons of genuine Eucharistic faith
  • living exemplary Catholic lives
  • having sound psychological maturity
  • nourished by frequent reception of the Eucharist
  • willing to accept and follow the guidelines proposed for the Church
Meetings / Workshops:  Formation programs for candidates are held at various times and include: a grounding in Eucharistic theology; an understanding of the history and principles of liturgical ministry; a sense of the minister's responsibility to convey reverence by posture movement and dress; and a personal faith response at the moment of contact with the communicant. Each Church site has a coordinator who prepares the Eucharistic Minister schedule.

SAINT PATRICK CHURCH

Note: 10:30 AM Ministers: If you are the Host to the Disabled, please take Communion to the choir loft.

Extraordinary Ministers change in procedure (Note that Host #2 has been discontinued) See diagram

Effective July 24/25, 2010:  For English Masses we are asking you to please sign in when scheduled to be an Extraordinary Minister or Lector. A schedule will be taped on the wall under the steps leading to the choir loft.  If you have not signed in 5 minutes before Mass time, the coordinator (TBA for the 5 pm Mass; Joyce Ann Daniel for the 10:30 am Mass and Luvie Meneses or Betty Gounah for the 12 noon Mass) will find a replacement.  Our desire is for you to arrange a substitute.  Please have her/him sign over your name.  Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

SACRED HEART CHURCH
For 11 AM Eucharistic Ministers - remember we are trying to avoid the bottleneck on the Blessed Mother's side at communion time. PLEASE go as far to your right as possible (wine minister to your left) and serve the congregation first.  After that please serve the handicapped (The usher should be pointing them out). Sometimes this is working and sometimes it is not. I am hoping that with time it will run smoothly (one can only pray).

Thank you all for your service.
Judy Wolf

May God bless you for serving in your ministry.
