Vocations Committee |
|
Purpose: Because of the acute shortage of priests, nuns and brothers, the archdiocese directed each parish to form and activate a Parish Vocations Committee. The Holy Family Parish Vocations Committee began in April of 2010. Their mission is to foster vocations to the priesthood, deaconate and religious life.
The objectives are to
• Restore the zeal and appreciation for vocations
• Provide a vocations environment and culture to enhance discernment
• Obtain religious vocations from this parish
|
|
The pursuit of these objectives and mission is through four major sub-committees who develop programs, activities and events in these areas:
|
|
Prayer Team - Develops programs and prayers especially focusing on vocations
Recognition and Remembrance - Develops and presents programs and events to recognize and honor Priests & Religious who have served or are now serving the Galveston Catholic Community
Awareness Team - Promotes awareness of the need for Priests & Religious and public relations activity related to the committee and vocations generally
Support Team - Provides support to Priests, Religious Seminarians and lay ministers and acts as liaison betwen this committee and the Seminary and the Diocesan Office for Vocations

Ongoing Initiatives:
Vocation Chalice: (Family receipt of the Vocation Chalice resumes September 10-11, 2011) During this liturgical year we are encouraging our parish family to pray for an increase in vocations. Each week, at each of our ten parish Masses, a volunteer parishioner family accepts the commission to pray during the week for an increase of vocations for priests, deacons, sisters, brothers and all religious life. This family takes the vocation chalice home and places it in an appropriate place in the home to remind them to pray that week. We also ask that each member of our parish family join spiritually with our volunteers with their own prayers for religious vocations. If you would like to schedule a date to receive the chalice please call Dorothy Becker (409) 737-2072 for additional information and/or contact information for the coordinator of a specific Church Mass.
